Planting a Native Butterfly Host Plant Garden, May 11

April 27, 2023

The Learning Garden presents:
Sun & Shade Garden Series: Planting a Native Butterfly Host Plant Garden

Thursday, May 11, 2023
10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

NC Cooperative Extension
Buncombe County Center
49 Mount Carmel Road
Asheville, NC 28806

Presenters: Mary Ann Snedeker, Extension Master GardenerSM Volunteer

We will be creating a garden with native butterfly and moth host plants that will provide what native lepidopterans need to complete their life cycle.  We are going beyond providing nectar sources with pollinator plants by planting host plants as a food source for caterpillars. Caterpillars are voracious and very picky eaters, eating only specific host plants. We will be planting these native plants.

A portion of this class will be in the garden, please dress appropriately for the weather.

Registration: The talk is free but registration is required. Please click on the link below to register. If you encounter problems registering or if you have questions, call 828-255-5522.
