NC Mountain State Fair

The Extension Master Gardeners of Buncombe County will again be the sponsors of the NC Mountain State Fair Flower and Garden Show in the Expo Building and will have their Educational Exhibit on display the entire 10 days of the Fair.  Master Gardeners will staff the “Ask a Master Gardener” information table, answer gardening questions, explain the educational project they have created, and answer questions about the Master Gardener Program.      The educational exhibit will focus on the EMG’s efforts to inform the public about gardening in the fall months.

There are two flower shows during the fair.   The first show is a Standard Flower Show. The second show is a NC Mountain fair show. These shows are identical, except for the design/arrangement. This category has different themes, for each show. The judges are different, not the show.  Cooperating organizations for the Standard Flower Show are the District 1 Garden Club of North Carolina, Inc. and the National Garden Club, South Atlantic Region.

Flower Entry day for the 1st show will be Wednesday, September 3 from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm.   First show judging is on Thursday, Sept 4, 2014.   Flower entry day for the 2nd show will be September 9,  with judging on the 10th.  Total premiums offered by the Mountain State Fair for all divisions in both shows add up to $14,020.    Find all of the details and flower criteria at http://www.mountainfair.org/2014/m.pdf

The CAROLINAS Dahlia Society and the Blue Ridge Rose Society will return this year with their beautiful flowers and educational displays.  Some will staff their displays different days of the week.

We invite you to enter your horticulture and flower designs.   For those who have never entered before, we will be there to help you, every step of the way.
