The NC Mountain State Fair opens at the NC Agricultural Center in a just few days! From September 8–17, it’s the place to spend the last few days of summer and enjoy petting zoos, 4-H projects, rides, funnel cakes, and—of course—the Flower Shows. The NC Mountain State Fair sponsors many special competitions and exhibitions for both children and adults.
The Flower and Garden Department, located in the Expo Building, hosts two Flower Shows sponsored by the Extension Master GardenerSM Volunteers of Buncombe County. The first show will be judged and available for viewing beginning Friday, September 8 at 9 a.m. The second show will be judged and ready for viewing on Wednesday, September 13 at 3 p.m. until Fair closing.
Extension Master GardenerSM Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about the show and general gardening. First time Flower Show entrants who missed the deadline for entering should see the Superintendent upon arrival to be able to enter the show.
Both Flower Shows feature hundreds of entries from both adults and children in over 170 horticulture classes and approximately 30 design classes. As an additional treat this year, the statewide Dahlia Show, sponsored by the Carolinas Dahlia Society, will be available for viewing during the first weekend of the Fair, September 8–10. This show is expected to have hundreds of beautiful dahlia specimens from all over the South. Members of the Dahlia Society will be on hand to answer questions.
In addition to the competitive entries, the Flower and Garden Department will include educational exhibits by the Asheville-Blue Ridge Rose Society and the 2017 class of Extension Master GardenerSM Volunteers.
Come out to the Fair! You’ll see lots of beautiful flowers and have plenty of fun!
