Save the Date: WNC Gardening Symposium, October 12

April 1, 2022

After a two-year hiatus, we are pleased to announce plans for the upcoming 2022 WNC Gardening Symposium!

We have a wonderful lineup of speakers!

Our keynote speaker will be Toni Gattone, an adaptive gardening expert, a blogger, and author of The Lifelong Gardener: Garden With Ease and Joy At Any Age. Her talks will be You Can Garden for Life and A Moveable Feast—Growing Edibles in Containers.

Other featured speakers
Preston Montague is an artist, educator, and landscape designer who developed a passion for the natural world while growing up in the rural foothills of Virginia. He will be talking about landscape design. Preston has generously donated a beautifully framed and autographed botanical print that will be raffled off at the symposium.

Brenda Rosbrook and Kay Campbell, Raymond’s Garden Center’s “Shady Ladies,” will present transitioning from Fall into Winter/Holiday container gardening by changing out different decorative items. Ideas include using obelisks, trellises, pumpkins and holiday themed items.

Sue Goetz, owner of The Creative Gardener, is based in Tacoma, Washington. Sue is a certified professional horticulturist, the author of two books, The Herb Lover’s Spa Book and A Taste of Herbs, and an award-winning designer. Her motto “inspiring gardeners to create” will define her talk on A Taste of Herbs.

Location
Once again, the symposium will be held at the Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, North Carolina. With easy access just off I-26, the facility offers a roomy conference center with excellent graphic displays and sound, plus a central area where the vendors will be situated so you can easily see everything they have to offer.

Cost
Consistent with prior years, the fee to attend the symposium will be $65, or $60 if you register before the early bird deadline. We have a fabulous new caterer who will provide a continental breakfast, lunch, and afternoon coffee break. Details and online registration information will be available on this website in early August.

As always, there will be wonderful door prizes, great vendors, and plenty of free parking. We have an impressive lineup of dynamic and entertaining speakers you won’t want to miss. So mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 12!

Note: Our WNC Gardening Symposium Committee has been working hard to organize this wonderful symposium for you. We are hoping that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic will remain in-check and we can gather for this event.
